How
Barack Obama Became Mr. Unpopular
The Barack Obama that most Hoosiers remember voting
for can still be found on YouTube. He stands before a
cheering Elkhart high school gymnasium in August 2008,
tireless, aspirational, promising a new America of
jobs and hope. "We can choose another
future," says the newcomer with the funny name.
"So I ask you to join me." Today that view
of Obama is harder to find.

The idea of owning your own island is probably a
remote fantasy these days, especially after three
years of economic carnage to your bank account,

August. Maybe you're on budget vacation, at the beach,
or at a bayfront or lakefront rental. So who hasn't
gazed out at an island from the shore, and wondered
what it would be like to own your own kingdom,
tethered to civilization only by water or air?

Archbishop
Of Canterbury Hits Back After Stephen Hawking Insists
God Did NOT Create The Universe
The
Archbishop of Canterbury has led a religious backlash

Stephen Hawking’s findings that modern physics

the origins of the universe.

Origins Of Universe
The chief rabbi, Lord Sacks, hit back at Stephen

Design, published next week, Hawking concludes that
science excludes the possibility of a deity and that
it is unnecessary to "invoke God to light the
blue touch paper and set the universe going".
Can
You Change The Laws Of Physics?
A new piece of astrophysical research may, however,
have uncovered a crucial piece of the puzzle. In a
paper just submitted to Physical Review Letters, a
team led by John Webb and Julian King from the
University of New South Wales in Australia present
evidence that the fine-structure constant may not
actually be constant after all. Rather, it seems to
vary from place to place within the universe.
Disagreeing
Over Gravity
The Newtonian constant of gravitation -- known in the
finely tuned business of metrology as 'big
G' -- has come a long way since British
physicist Henry Cavendish first measured the
gravitational attraction of Earth in 1798. Although G
derived from Cavendish's measurements had an
uncertainty of about 1%, modern measurements have
tightened that to just a couple of tens of parts per
million.

Extinction Threat: Earth On Verge Of Huge Reset

Some scientists have speculated that effects of humans
- from hunting to climate change - are fueling another
great mass extinction. A few go so far as to say we
are entering a new geologic epoch, leaving the
10,000-year-old Holocene Epoch behind and entering the
Anthropocene Epoch, marked by major changes to global
temperatures and ocean chemistry, increased sediment
erosion, and changes in biology that range from
altered flowering times to shifts in migration
patterns of birds and mammals and potential die-offs
of tiny organisms that support the entire marine food

Fears Over Global Food Supply
Russia
announced a 12-month extension of its grain export ban

announcement by Vladimir Putin came as the UN’s Food
and Agriculture Organisation called an emergency
meeting to discuss the wheat shortage, and riots in
Mozambique left seven dead. The unrest in Maputo, in
which 280 people were also injured, followed the
government’s decision to raise bread prices by 30
per cent. Police opened fire on demonstrators after
thousands turned out to protest against the price
hikes, burning tyres and looting food warehouses.

Is National Prep Month: Does God Have A Plan?
Today, a strange paradox
exits. What looks like the fulfillment of prophecy is
everywhere; unrest in the Middle East, the rise of a
European Superstate, the alignment of Gog and Magog,
forming of a national ID and gateways through
biotechnology that could unleash upon earth pestilence
of biblical proportions. People from all three of the
world’s great religions see these developments as
potential omens of an ‘End Times’ scenario leading
to the Apocalypse. Yet many believers in God,
especially in America, are indifferent to the need to
prepare for the unexpected. An article by Mimi Hall in
USA TODAY recently said, "Most Americans haven't
taken steps to prepare for a natural disaster,
terrorist attack or other emergency, according to a
new study on preparedness, and only about a third have
made plans with family members about how they would
communicate with each other during a crisis."

Calling
Tom Horn & Steve Quayle! Senior Scientist At The
Institute Of Noetic Sciences (Featured In Dan Brown's
"The Lost Symbol") Sees Bridge Between
Science & Supernatural
"I don't care too much what people think,"
says Dean Radin, Ph.D., senior scientist at the
Institute of Noetic Sciences. "I'm much more
interested in tracking something which I think is
meaningful and which I think eventually will become
more and more meaningful. That's what science is all
about. We're driven by curiosity." Nestled in the
rolling golden hills on the outskirts of Petaluma, the
Institute of Noetic Sciences' (IONS) enclave of wooden
buildings almost disappears among the trees. Within
one of those buildings, Radin conducts scientific
experiments that question whether such seemingly
fantastical abilities as telepathy, psychokinesis and
precognition could actually be real... The public is
listening. But what exactly is Radin saying? Wouldn't
we all like to have paranormal powers of perception?
Is this anything more than Age of Enlightenment fervor
to justify secret fantasies with rationalized,
scientific research? Radin would argue that there is
absolutely more to it than that, and he has the
laboratory data and physical theory to back up his
claims.
How
to Remake Life
With a precise motion, Li Ma, a technician at the J.
Craig Venter Institute in Rockville, MD, pipettes a
cherry-red solution of bacterial cells into a vial
that contains a clear solution of fragile DNA loops.
These loops, the largest pieces of DNA ever assembled
in the lab, are each capable of controlling all the
ordinary functions of a cell. But the DNA didn't
originate in any bacteria: instead, scientists pieced
it together from bottled chemicals. The process they
recently developed for doing this is the first to
yield synthetic cells that are capable of surviving.
Some of the bacterial cells that Ma is working with
will fuse together in the solution, engulfing the
synthetic genome and then replicating and living under
its control.
DNA
On The Move
Deep inside a beaker in a humming chemistry lab in New
York City, a spindly spider crawls over a jumble of
origami. It’s not the colored-paper kind of origami,
but rather is made of precisely designed segments of
DNA. For that matter, so is the spider. This spider
wasn’t built to spin webs or eat bugs. It’s a DNA
nanorobot, a primitive version of the machines that
may someday perform tasks too small for humans to do.
For more than a decade, scientists have been
developing DNA nanomachines, from tiny tweezers to
two-legged “walkers” that can step to the left or
right. Recent molecular robot research has gone a step
further, aiming to get DNA molecules to organize
themselves and move about, all without batteries or
information storage in their nanobodies. These
machines harness the power of natural DNA-DNA
interactions programmed into the origami foundation.

What
Could It Mean? Mysterious Radio Broadcast Changes
The output of a mysterious radio station in Russia,
which has been broadcasting the same monotonous signal
almost continuously for 20 years, has suddenly
changed. Numbers stations are shortwave radio
stations that broadcast computer-generated voices
reading numbers, words, letters or Morse code. Their
purpose has never been uncovered, but evidence from
spy cases suggests that they're used to broadcast
coded information to secret agents. Over the past week
or so, the output of one particular station that
broadcasts from near Povarovo, Russia, increased
dramatically.
Human
Evolution About To Mirror Evolution's Big Bang?
Is Human evolution about to mimic Evolution's Big
Bang? Stephen Hawking thinks so. For billions of
years, simple creatures like plankton, bacteria, and
algae ruled the earth. Then, suddenly, life got very
complicated. Recent discoveries from Canada's Burgess
Shale Deposits, Greenland, China, Siberia, and Namibia
document clearly that a period of biological
creativity known as the Cambrian Explosion occurred in
a "geological instant" over 500 million
years ago virtually all around the globe -an explosion
of life that continues to puzzle evolutionists. During
the Cambrian explosion animals as diverse as
arthropods, molluscs, jellyfish, and primitive
vertebrates all appear within a time span of only 5-10
million years with no ancestors and no intermediates.
EmotionML:
Will Computers Tap Into Your Feelings?
The idea is called affective computing in academic
circles, and if it catches on, computer interactions
could be very different. Avatar faces could show their
human master's expression during computer chats. Games
could adjust play intensity according to the player's
reactions. Customer service representatives could be
alerted when customers are really angry. Computers
could respond to your expressions as people do.
Computer help technology like Microsoft's Clippy or a
robot waiter could discern when to make themselves
scarce. "Rather than having to click the 'no'
button on some touch screen, I would rather shake my
head," Schroeder said. "Without having to
consciously decide to do so, I will show a puzzled and
confused facial expression, and a human would know
that I need advice and guidance." Computers could
adapt to this human communication style, he said.
Homeland Security: S.510 Deceptively Titled "Food
Safety And Modernization Act" Written By And For
Monsanto Lobbyists
The words "homeland security" are found 41
times in the text of the bill S. 510, also known
as the Food Safety Modernization Act. Unprecedented
powers over food are set to be handed over to
Homeland Security if the bill is not stopped. The bill
opens opens the door to even more federal control over
the everyday lives of American citizens. Since
they are already engaging in organic raw milk raids
without the increased powers of S. 510, the question
is going to be how many more guns-drawn raids are we
to expect after the bill becomes law? It gets
worse.
